Ideas for your next brew

Random recipe idea generator.

It puts together a prefix, base style, and yeast from a random list.

Sometimes it comes up with normal ideas (like a hoppy english IPA with english yeast) but a lot of times it comes up with awesome ideas which just sound crazy enough to work. Like: Vanilla English Brown with Cali Common yeast or a Spiced English IPA with German Lager yeast

Give it a try, it's a good way to waste 5 minutes.

Sounds like fun... But

That is a good time, vanilla came up about 3 out of 5 tries so apparently i'm supposed to do a vanilla beer. When/how do you typically add this in. I know i heard Doc adds it to his bottles prior to filling when he makes his vanilla stout right?

One bean in the end of the boil, just so you can say it is in there. Then dose with vanilla extract at packaging to taste.

I like to split and scrape my beans and put them in a touch of vodka or other hard alcohol then add it to my fermenter post-fermentation. Usually 2 beans per 5 gallons, but that depends on the base beer.

I'm sure you can do it in the boil and other ways, too.

I have a cream ale with peaches and vanilla with me now. I'm going out with my coworkers and will spring it on them.

Another great recipe is Denny Conn's BVIP (Bourbon Vanilla Imperial Porter). Google it and i'm sure you'll find the recipe. 2 years later and people are still asking me to brew it again.
