just found this site in the last couple weeks and have been listening to the session. great show. i'm going to make my first brew this weekend. a friend of mine has been brewing a while and i've really gotten caught up in it. i helped him out on an all grain and now i've got the bug to brew. i've been reading up and getting everything ready to go. can't wait to get started!

What do you plan on brewing?

my friend took me through the all grain process so he convinced me to go partial mash straight off. he's going to help out some too. got the Surley bitter partial mash kit from NB. should be a fun start.

been reading alot from john palmers book and other various things online. great book and im learning more than i ever imagined.

Welcome, sounds like you got a great friend starting you out so well. I just brewed the Bitter all grain version, so far it is looking to be a great beer.

I just finished my first brew! it went pretty well. now time to wait and see how it turns out. i managed to hit the final gravity at 1040 . pretty pleased with how it turned out so far.

first one is a bit nerve wrecking as far as watching temps and times huh? my paranoia kept me in the kitchen the whole time. only one small incident. i was using the glass thermometer that came with the home brew kit and when i turned for something i knocked it outta my hand and broke it on the floor! so lame. but it was just about at the end of the chill and i did have a metal meat thermometer handy to help a little bit.

and now it is in the bucket fermenting. crossing my fingers. time to relax now.

Just remeber the mantra : OHM,Sanitize sanitize sanitize OHM.....

i think i sanitized well. mixed 2.5 gal of star san solution and split it between two buckets. used the bottling bucket to leave a couple things in the solution i'd be using like the syphon etc., then made sure to sanitize the whole inside of the fermenter bucket and lid shortly before syphoning. (making sure i gave it the alotted time to work).

i'm just glad i didnt spin around and break the thermometer in the pot or somethign stupid like that.

The Brewing Network has been amazing!!! just made my 4th brew on saturday ( american ipa all grain!). i joined the army tonight! felt the need to give back to this community. it has been a wealth of knowledge and entertainment. also bought a few things from the store.
