Homebrew Legal in Alabama

Hey everyone here is my new user intro!

Background:
As many I started out with a Mr. Beer that my wife gave me for Christmas and now am hooked. Last time I brewed I got pissed off how easy it was and started looking for the next step. I have now upgraded to an extract system and love it. I started to listen to the show archives from day one and am only about 8 deep. I assume that it must be consistently good or I would not be seeing 200+ shows on iTunes.

The Now:
Just recently (Feb 23) my state passed a law to legalize home brewing. I am hopping that this will increase awareness and maybe even the amount of brewpubs in the state of AL. Fun/sad fact there are only 4 brewpubs that i am aware of now in the state, 0 in the Mobile, the city that I live in (Hurricane brewing closed down). So hopefully people like me and others will aspire to maybe one day reopen a brew pub in my city.

Whats Brewing:
I am currently bottle conditioning a double IPA and I will be brewing an American wheat this weekend.

The Future:
I plan to master each level of brewing until I am the best at brewing the best beer possible.

Are you sure about that???? I live in Biloxi, and have not heard this law passed over there.

Anyway, welcome aboard....there are a coupla brewers in Mobile that come over to Biloxi for our homebrew club meetings...lemme know if you are interested. They live around Shillenger Rd, what part of town you in?? We meet second Friday of every month...so This Friday is a meeting.

Don't know what Philyphil is smokin', but homebrewing is NOT legal in Alabama or Mississippi yet. The Alabama Legislature just came into session and we're hopeful our bill to legalize homebrewing has a good chance of passage this year. Unfortunately, our brothers in Mississippi will have to wait 'til next year.

FWIW, there are now ZERO operating brewpubs in Alabama. And our oldest operating production brewery, Olde Towne in Huntsville, is shutting down. On a positive note, Good People Brewing Company, in Birmingham, just completed their first run on their new canning line and now offer their excellent IPA nad Brown Ale at Alabama retail outlets. Also in Birmingham, the Avondale Brewing Company is very close to mashing-in their first batch.

On every fucking corner, man. You have no idea! They passed a law in the legislature several years ago doubling the sentence for anyone busted with drugs within 1000 ft. of a church or school. A newspaper story showed that this effectively doubled the sentence for all drug offenses since there's nearly nowhere in an urban area of Alabama that's not within 1000 ft of a church or school.

The Straight to Ale folks are brewing some really outstanding beers. Dan knows his stuff for sure. Good People in B'ham continues to impress and the availability of their beers in cans has been great (I'm enjoying one now). We've got several other brewers testing or about to test the waters soon: Blue Pants, Avondale, Back Forty (silver at the GABF for their Truck Stop Brown) and some others I can't remember. A solid homebrew culture exists here as well. Several beer-friendly pieces of legislation are also set to be introduced in the legislative session that just started. So, yeah, we're pullin' up the rear; but don't count us out just yet!
