Unfortunately the keggle is relatively new so im going to have to live with it for a while. I dont have a problem with 90 minute boils as long as I use the anti foam drops. I end up with 12 gallons in the kettle after the boil which leaves me with 10.5-11 gallons for the fermenters. I lose abt 2 gallons per hour in the boil. Its real close with the volum which is why I want to figure out a way to filter the break material. With 10 gallon batch I really cant lose much or I am shy in the fermenters.

Rig up (or buy) some sort of hop back and stuff it with a hop sack full of rice hulls. Works pretty well reducing the amount of crap that makes it into my fermentor.

Okay, FermCap saves the day.

Setting up a trub filtering device will work for limited amounts of trub but it's not going to be able to handle all the trub from a failed whirlpool. I wouldn't easily dismiss the whirlpool and go looking for remedies. All the breweries I've been in use a whirlpool religiously but I've only heard talk of a trub filter.

BTW, I tried rice hulls in my hopback over the weekend and it worked great.

OK, maybe it's me, but I feel that maybe JZ has whipped up a little neurosis with regards to hop and break material making it over into the fermenter, a la "Charlie P.'s fear of autolysis, and therefore 'secondary'".

Maybe it's true in the lightest of light lagers... but so far all of mine (arguably a little bigger) have been fine. I always get a little bit of hop and break material over into the fermenters. I don't worry about wringing it all out.

I am guessing that this is an issue for you?
Build yourself a rotating pick up tube for your BK. That'll let you decide what to pick up and what to leave behind.
I have drawings and pictures of mine

You could skip all the over blown exercise I went through to make it a bolt on bulkhead-mount and just weld or braise it to your keggle.
HEY~!! It's a hobby~!! It's NOT supposed to make sense~!!

Thanks for all the responses guys.....

I was still on the fence about what to buy when my wife told me we where going to have another brewing assistant in 9 months. So I went ahead and bought the sabco false bottom with siphon because it was the most expensive and I will most likely be locked down from major purchases for another year. Funny thing is that I just bought a shit load of her favorite hops(sorachi, centenial, citra, amarillo, cascade) to make her favorite beers. Guess I have a few months to perfect her favorite styles. :jnj
