I agree, ginger can be very overwhelming if too much is added to your beer. Depending on how big of a ginger flavor you are looking for I would start on the low end as you can alway adjust as the primary starts to slow by making a hot tea infusion with extra ginger added back. Are you looking for a ginger aroma or ginger flavor or both, as that will depend on when to add it to the boil.
