Michael Paull from Columbus, Ohio, here.
I started brewing after I proposed to my wife in 2004. My father-in-law was an experience homebrewer who'd hung up the hoses, and passed them on to me and taught me how to use them while the girls went shopping for wedding gowns and stuff. Now we still brew together when they come to town.
I'm still brewing partial extract batches, though my brewing buddy Steve and I are putting together a plan for an all grain set up at his place. I've returned to college and am pretty active in the local environmental movement, so money and time are both pretty tight right now. Also, I rent a sort of tight place.
Right now I'm brewing a Belgian Specialty Ale recipe we got out of a book that has Orange Blossom Honey in it and started with the highest OG I've had so far, 1.065, so I'm hoping for good sweet drinks for the start of the next quarter.
I found the BN about six weeks ago and it is my favorite podcast. I look forward to it every week, and often listen twice (I listen at work so I miss some of the information the first time). I can already say that it's making me a better brewer - I've gotten a copy of How to Brew and Promash, and I'm putting together my first recipe for my next batch that won't come straight out of a book. I'm shooting for a pub ale / bitter like my favorite beer, Tetley's.
I love how you all focus on information for people at all levels of experience and deal with both the big time all grain sculptures and the back-to-college budget stuff. Plus, last week's Daniella's World Vigorously was great for me, as a word nut / beer lover. Thanks!
Michael
