Anybody have experience with the Citra hop variety? I have a few oz's and am looking for a good pairing for some IPA dry hoping. Any info would be much apppreciated!

I've just brewed my pale ale so far. But I've tried beers with Citra blended with quite a few different varieties, and really haven't had a bad one yet. It definitely works best as a late or dry hop. Here's what I'd do with what you have:

60min Centennial/Chinook (50/50)
30min Columbus
20min Simcoe
15min Citra
10min Amarillo
5min Citra
Flameout Amarillo/Citra

Dry hop: Amarillo/Citra/Centennial

Might seem a bit elaborate.... But from all the beers I've had with that hop, that seems like it would be a good blend. I have a recipe whipped up with that hop schedule, just haven't brewed it yet!

My Pale Ale had the following schedule:

60min Warrior
20min Sorachi Ace/Citra
15min Sorachi Ace/Citra
10min Sorachi Ace/Citra
5min Sorachi Ace/Citra
Flamout Sorachi Ace/Citra

The pale came out better than I had anticipated!

What's Sarachi Ace? I've never heard of it.

It's a Japanese Hop with a very Lemony flavor/aroma. One of my favorite aroma hops out there right now.

Sierra Nevada Torpedo is late hopped with primarily Citra hops IIRC.

I've tried a homebrew late hopped with Citra and it had a pronounced tropical fruit aroma with a musky almost cat pee like aroma in the background. The flavor was somewhat unremarkable. It's a nice hop but I wouldn't overdo it. would probably work nicely blended with other hops to bring out the tropical fruit.

Yesterday I had the first bottle of this beer fully carbonated. Previously I had just had a sample pre-bottling.

It came out great! However, not nearly as citrusy as anticipated. Has a much more piney, evergreen quality to it. Still fantastic, but not citrusy. The other Citra (and Sorachi Ace) beers I've had to this point have all been dry hopped with said hops, and had a MUCH more pronounced citrus character and aroma. I'm going to brew this beer again with a few tweaks, and dry hop it.

This beer (or my taste buds) just can't make up its mind. Took a bottle to my club last night, and it definitely had the citrus character. So yeah... I'm just adding confusion to this whole thing

Dry hopped 1.5 oz of Citra pellets directly into the fermenter of a 9 day old Pale Ale yesterday. I'll leave it at 70 degress for 5 days, rack into a keg and dry hop 1 oz in the keg. I'll keep you posted on the outcome. Cheers!

The hop schedule for the Pale Ale was as follows:

1 oz Galena 60 min.

.75 Columbus 20 min.
.75 Centenial 20 min.

1 oz Columbus 0 min.
1 oz Centenial 0 min.
