What are your motor specs? I thought I found a good deal on a gearmotor, but it turns out it doesn't have a enough torque. Need more power, but don't want to run into the same problem again.

Beerpal,

Where did you get the coupler to attach the motor shaft to the crusher shaft?
Do you have a part #?

Thanks,
JD

Capacitor? What the hell is the capacitor? Does that thing travel through time too?

Seriously, I plan on building this as soon as my motor arrives, but I don't recall hearing anything about a capacitor. Does it come with the motor? If not, where do I get it?

Copied;

Capacitor Start

This motor has a capacitor in series with a starting winding and provides more than double the starting torque with one third less starting current than the split phase motor. Because of this improved starting ability, the capacitor start motor is used for loads which are hard to start. It has good efficiency and requires starting currents of approximately five times full load current. The capacitor and starting windings are disconnected from the circuit by an automatic switch when the motor reaches about 75% of its rated full load speed.

So I think I'm in the ball park. Here is what I got:

Gearmotor, Bodine Electric
Type: 42R4BFCI-5L 0623 DU

Volts: 115
Hz: 60 A: 1.7
HP: 1/8
Ratio: 10:1
RPM: 170
Torq: 31-lb-in

Given these specs are close, I think I've got a motor with a problem. Tonight I checked the RPMs and it's only turning about 80 RPMs . Looks like I need to investigate.

I think 30 lb-in is marginal, but that's 2nd-hand information. I based my mill on this information. He was getting by on 20, but thought 60 would be better. My motor is 135, not because I thought I needed that much torque, but because that's what I found on eBay.

A capacitor start is one motor configuration. My motor is a PSC, permanent split capacitor, in which the capacitor is always connected. There are a variety of configurations.
