I'm motorizing my Barley Crusher. The gear motor came in today and it turns out I didn't bother to check on how it was wired. How can I get a 3-blade, 110-volt AC plug on this thing?

The right way is to get a mating connector for it. If you're cool with just cutting it off, then here's how it should be done.

I think my barley crusher requires CW rotation on the handle, so since this faces that shaft, you want CCW on the motor.

Select your cord and strip back the outer jacket. It'll either be Black/White/Green or Brown/Blue/Green. Sometimes the green wire has a yellow stripe also.

The motor's GREEN wire goes to your cord's GREEN wire.
The motor's WHITE wire goes to your cord's WHITE or BLUE wire.
The motor's BLUE wire goes to one side of the capacitor.
The motor's RED wire goes to the other side of the capacitor AND your cord's BLACK or BROWN wire.

Make sure all connections are properly insulated. Test with a GFCI outlet or GFCI breaker.

If you have any questions, ask before you plug it in. I am not an electrician.

FWIW, it looks like that connector is the same as the ones inside your computer. Maybe get a mate at Fry's Electronics. Just like how JP does it.

So I can buy a connector with a 3-prong lug on the other end?

Also, what about the separate capacitor? What happens with that?

You will also need a couple of those crimp on slide connectors to attach to each end on the capacitor.

Make sure you connect one to each side of the capacitor - there are two connectors on each post - your blue and red should be on separate posts, not the same side.

Someone needs to build a gas powered mill. That would be sweet. :bnarmy:
