Good idea, bad implementation

For years I've been preaching that you should always have a spare propane tank when brewing. Today I'm brewing. I pulled out my burner and propane tank and noticed the tank was close to empty. I figured I would just run that tank dry and switch to my spare.

Sure enough when the wort got to 180° the tank ran out. I grabbed the other tank. Crap!!! I forgot to get it filled! Had to run to the store to exchange it real quick. Fortunately that was only a 10 minute trip but still cost $5 more than when I refill.

The wort only dropped about 5 degrees while I was gone so no problems with resuming the brew. I hope nothing else goes wrong. The other empty tank is now sitting in the car so I will remember to fill it as soon as the brew session is done.

Moral of the story: Keep your spare tank full!

I ran out of propane on Sunday. I thought I only had one brew on my tank, it usually lasts at least three. Went to hook it up and it felt pretty light. Went to exchange it, costs me more that a fill. AND I read a little pamphlet they put on the tank - they underfill the exchange tanks by one gallon now, and still charge the same price. Bastards!

And Mrs. Tat makes fun of me for having 6 spares. Of course if I let them all run out I'd have to be a super moron. That reminds me.....
