Dark Hybrid

Anyone ever made a dark hybrid beer? I've been thinking about recipes I could make with San Francisco Lager, Alt yeast, etc and I thought it might be fun to make something that's between a Schwarzbier and a Stout.

Read thought the My 1554 recipe X-File thread. Lots of thoughts on the Dark Hybrid idea. My batch is keg conditioning right now. It will be two weeks in the keg this weekend. The final hydrometer sample was tasty so I am optimistic.

I went with a Kolsch yeast at ale temp.

I couldn't wait any longer so I chilled and tapped the 1654 Black Pearl. I think my recipe is definitely right in between a Schwarzbier and a Stout. I was thinking it is more of a summer drinking Stout. It is not as thin or transparent as the NB 1554. Next batch I will cut back even farther on the roasted malts. Of my total grain bill only 3/4 of a pound was dark and that still was too much to get into the 1554 ball park.

So even though I missed the 1554 clone I made a super yummy beer.
