I'm in

I'll brew whatever we decide on. I'm not at all a Saison fan, but I'll brew one up anyways for fun. I've never brewed one, and I wouldn't mind a learning experience. I voted for the Scottish 70 though

I'm going with the new-ish White Labs saison blend (WLP568). Anybody know what the 2nd yeast is?

This sounds like a great idea. But are we gonna have regional and then send the best, say 4-6 beers to The BN for another tasting and evaluation? I'm just curious...I'd like to join, but depends on the recipe we choose. I've never had a saison, I'll have to find Hennipen or DuPont somewhere. Sounds like fun!

Does the winner get a pic of JP in his :nutters:  .

I just used this blend and I don't know what the second yeast is. The beer turned out ok with some nice spicy flavors, but l didn't get it to attenuate as much as I would have liked. Last summer I used the Dupont strain and got it down to 1.008, this year with virtually the same recipe and temperatures it finished at 1.014.

The way it works is that once I have commitment from a decent group of people, then I split them into tasting groups based on BJCP experience and geographic location. It's basically a round robin where tasting group #1 sends theirs to tasting group #2, etc. Nobody will taste their own, and everone will receive one beer to judge for every one they send out. This time around, I am going to try to make groups of no more than 3 so that it doesn't cost so much to ship.

The website is forthcoming (I've been kinda busy with personal life, recently). But you can at least register your address and vitals. I hope to have a little more time so that all the communication is handled via the websites - including status, assignments, shipping info, downloading and uploading scoresheets.

You can't commit to any comps, yet - but if you are interested in participating - go to www.asshatbrewingsoftware.com and register.

Done... I'm in this time. I've been wanting to brew a saison - especially now when I can do a warmer ferment.
