Re: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale clone.

Here's a quick comparison of the various recipes. If I read the Northern Brewer topic correctly there are two recipes for Beerfan's clone (see page 30) which differ only in final volume (although I haven't run them through BeerSmith yet). Both are included for completeness.

The recipes are very similar, and I'll probably decide on the fly which one I follow, but I'm a hop junky, so will probably go with the 2 oz cascade at flameout ;).

I've got this one cued up for Sunday afternoon and the starter is at the 400 ml stage. Any final thoughts?

It's in the primary, and I'm pooped! I went a little over gravity (1.062!). Gonna have to check my efficiency!

I'll post updates as warranted.

The recipe ended up being pretty much the Beerfan #2 above except 1 lb crystal 40 instead of .85 lb crystal 60. I bottled the stuff July 1. Chilled 6 and took a quick taste this eve. Yeah, I couldn't wait.

This is very SNPA-ish! Carbonation is light (9 days conditioned. It'll get better). Perhaps a tad more bitter and aroma hops than geniune SNPA (hey, it's fresh!). Maybe 1-2 pts higher on SRM too. Definately more body and more malty aroma.

I kept it between 152 and 153 on the mash, so for a more SNPA type body maybe mash a tad higher. Me? I like big bodied beers, so I'm completely satisfied.

Conclusion: It's a winner! I will make this one again.
