Equipment and Beersmith question.

Mon May 11, 2009 6:31 pm

I have a standard turkey fryer 30qt(7.5 gal Aluminum pot) and I have made a 10gal rubbermaid with with stainless steel braid MLT as seen here

My question is for those that use beersmith. I would like to know the settings that you use for your equipment to make sure that I have them at least close.

I do know there are allot of factors that go into it (ie. boil off rate ect...) but I stll would like to know.

If it helps maybe there is some one out there that is around the elevation of 673 ft above sea level because our numbers would be very close and it would let me know how far off I am on my settings.

I use a 7 gallon cooler and I have about a 20% boiloff rate.

There isn't an easy answer because every system is different. People who brew outside will have a different evap rate than people who brew inside. Vigor of boil also makes a big difference. The best thing you can do is brew a batch and at 1 hour you can check to see how much has boiled off and calculate your own evap rate. I think that 20 is going to be to high. I can range between 12-16 depending on how I boil and what season it is summer vs winter.

Thanks BNB that is close to my equipment and I hope that would work as a starting point.

BrewerJ,
thank you also, I do understand that there is allot of different factors that go into all the settings. I just wanted to know what peoples setting were that has the same setup as I have.

by the way I do use a propane burner that came with the turkey fryer so with that being said... there is NO WAY that I would do a boil, using my setup, in doors.

anyone else mind showing me there settings for the same equipment?
Come on help a fellow brewer out :jnj
