Rubber Keg bottom leaving a mess in the tub

Sun Mar 15, 2009 5:39 pm

I clean out most of my brewing equipment in the basement bathroom and after I'm done cleaning the corny keg, I see that the rubber bottom of my keg has left black streaks all over the tub. The rubber is pretty old and cracking in some places and I figure that's why, but is there anything that can be done to reduce this and maybe also increase the lifespan of the rubber?

Armor-All will take care of the rubber. May take a couple applications to get it soaked in. I use good old Ajax or Comet with a green scratch pad to get the marks out of the tub. I need to pick up a rubber bath mat for the tub so I don't get the marks in the first place.

Sounds like it's not just me so I guess my keg isn't in imminent danger of failing. Will the Armor all slow down the rubber rotting?

If its really bad, some places sell replacements for the rubber tops/bottoms of your cornies...
