adjusting hydrometer reading

Wed Feb 25, 2009 12:12 pm

Using distilled water @ 68F, my hydrometer reads .997. I have no idea if it's linearly wrong.

Should I add .003 to my reading to match estimated calculations for everything?

(I'm not sure if my hydro is 60F or 68F as baseline--but hydrometer calibration adjust through Beersmith tells me there should be a .001 difference between the 2 temps)

It should say right on the hydrometer what temp it reads at. Most are 60 degrees.

Sounds like you're only reading .002 off. Yes, you can add those to every calculation with that one specific hydrometer.
