I use one of these I got for $9. Drilled three 1" holes in it works great.

I would avoid the oak unless you finish it somehow (which I guess has its own issues). I made one from an oak plank, lasted about a year, but became brittle and ultimately broke. For the time and effort, the ones posted look like pretty good options.
