Re: Anti Foaming Agent~~~~ HOLY CRAPPOLY

I have used the foam control several times. I feel that in my beers it did affect the head somewhat. The head seemed to have more of a foam-like scum on the top than a sweet long-lasting head. So I started cutting it out of ferments. The ferments also didn't seem to krausen up and then fall like I normally would see.

I still use it in all my starters though. Those Erlenmeyers will foam over like nothing else.

Are we supposed to keep this spooge in a jar in the fridge? I thought I remember someone saying that.

Yes, store it in the fridge until use.

This stuff is pretty amazing. I used it in a starter yesterday and it never foamed at all. Usually I can only do a 1400 mL starter in my 2L flask and am constantly battling a boil over with turning the flame up & down and taking it off the burner. I did an 1800 mL starter and didn't have to take it off the stove once.

+1 on the 6.5 gallon boil in the 7 gallon pot. The first 15 minutes is such a pain in the ass. I will definately pick some of this up.

Full tilt boil, essentially no foam after only one drop of Fermcap S.

Typically I can't run my pump for more than 3-5min. bursts. But with a single drop of Fermcap S. It ran just fine over night and still ended up with very little foam.

I am still worried about the head stand left on the beers. Not to be an asshole who only believes the pope, but has any of our distinguished brewcasters weighed in on the stuff?
