cousin brew

Wed Nov 26, 2008 10:10 am

I am thinking of making a cousin brew. How much cousin do I need for a 5gal batch? I was thinking of using 1oz
How do I add the cousin? Are there any special steps? I can't find that info in Brewing Classic Styles
What is the best style to use?

The hard part is extracting the happy chemical from the cousin. the boiling temperature isn't high enough. The only thing that I think you can do is soak the cousin in everclear (97.5% alcohol) for a couple weeks to extract the happy chemical then add that to the beer. If you just want the aroma/flavor of the cousin just get some swag and chuck it in at the end of the boil like you would hops.

I'm no expert. Hopefully some other people will know what to do.

I may or may not have done this in the past with a Bohemian Pilsner. I dry hopped with 1.5 ozs. I was going for flavor/aroma rather than effect and it did indeed work. It was not good, however, it had a funky vegetal flavor and aroma and plain just a schwagginess to it. If you do do it I would go with a style that may blend those flavors more than just having them just stand out on their own. Any psychoactive effects were very minimal. A strong alcohol infusion would definitely be the route to go if that is the desire.

Your $$$ is much better spent by just smoking it. Unless it's free to you... in which case, send me a bottle!
