Countertop full volume boil idea

Tue Nov 25, 2008 6:45 am

I posted this in the extract and partial mash forum, but thought it might go better here...

I saw this setup in a store the other day and I thought it would be a great setup for extract or even partial mash. This unit holds 7 gallons so you could do full volume boils, faster than a stove top to heat, has an adjustable thermostat, removable heating element and even a spigot to pour off the wort. I would think it would be safer on a patio than propane. Disclaimer: I dont sell these or own one. I built a brew rig last year. Just thought they looked like a good idea. Anyone else seen them or tried one?

ps I tried to post a picture but I dont really have any idea how to do that. Can anyone help with that??
Thanks

Better price, better features.

Digital controls. This might work if you could keep the wort circulating before the boil starts. I worry a little about carmelization(sp?), it will occur, but how much? Maybe could also be used for setting up your mash and strike water.

All,

I did a water boil with this unit Friday. +/- 5gallons to boil in 80 minutes with the cover on. The boil stopped when I took the cover off. I didn't pursue any further. More later.

I was just about to post something to this effect. With these units it is hard to maintain a vigorous boil... or any boil for that matter. That would require a bigger heating element than 1700watts.
