Frankly I have no real idea what the hop aroma contribution of the hopback is. On the rare occasion I don't use it, I don't notice a particular difference which is probably because I use plenty of dryhop. I use it when making lagers like Helles where I don't dryhop and I (or judges) can't perceive any hop nose. I think the prevailing wisdom is that the aroma probably gets scrubbed out during primary fermentation. I'm really just using the hopback as a trub filter and if I want more hop aroma I increase the dry hop.

So to answer the question, the reason I say half as much flameout hops as hopback hops is because I feel that would be the equivalent about of hop aroma due to the better utilization in the kettle versus the hopback. Just my opinion, no science, and I'm certainly open to other ideas.

This beer doesn't lack for hop flavor so I could also see dropping the hopback/flameout hops altogether.

Strike water is ready...Making my Pliny The Elder Clone today for Christmas. That beer peaks in 8-10 weeks.

I hope it brings some joy to what's been a pretty rough stretch for the BN.

Thank you Tasty! That was the best hoppy session beer I've ever had. I'm curious to make this and see if I can pull it off.

Now, that hop and grain bill looks mighty familiar :D

I concur about the Torvash as well.. I was really surprised not to see Tasty and Torvash in the Pro-Am medal round.
Cheers! Kippis! Skål! Prost!

Thanks Tasty, look forward to brewing the recipe. My brother and I met you at the GABF, we are the ones that were asking you about your Janet's Brown Ale recipe, he will be brewing next week. I will let you know how it turns out.

I remember you guys...it's Friday night after 11 that I can't remember. Good timing on that beer it's perfect for Thanksgiving and with some age, it'll be better by Christmas. I gotta make that beer SOON.

Wait a minute Nate......your North Oakland Double IPA was better than my beer and I'm not just saying that for sympathy. Your keg ran out which to me means I'm not alone in that thinking.

Hey guys, just FYI Northern Brewer has Warrior hops for a somewhat tolerable price: http://pivo.northernbrewer.com/nbstore/ ... or&x=0&y=0
