Welding a Brewstand

I built my first brewstand out of wood with some metal around the burners. I want to build a nice welded single tier stand. Planning on either welding super strut, regular angle iron or a combination. I am going to buy a small welding rig but want to know if MIG or ARC welding would work better. The welders are about the same in cost. What I can tell, ARC is faster but you can be more precise with MIG. Does the material matter? Is one stronger than the other???

Why weld. Use their bolts and fittings. Here is how mine started.

bubba has a nice stand there, but welding is cool. Get a MIG, or better yet, go TIG with stainless!

Don't buy a welder just to put your stand together. Ask around, some one will do it for you in return for some homebrew I'm sure.

I did use some of those fittings on the unistrut stuff. They are f'ing expensive. I am kind of a tool junkie and love to learn new skills. Welding seems like it would be interesting to get good at. I also have a spare keg I want to convert into a fermenter and would want to do some welding on that as well as some other things around the house.

I bought an Oxy-Acetylene set-up to weld up new expansion pipes for my bikes and used it for my stand.

It's not great with thicker metal, is HOT, and is expensive to get into. But it's pretty versatile.

TIG will do everything but that's a LOT more expensive.

I'm getting help from a neighbor to MIG weld my stand. For brewing vessel keg conversion, I was going to go to a pro shop that does sanitary TIG stainless work. That will cost a little, but they seemed more interested when I told them what it was for. It sounded like some barter would help my price.

The fittings may be expensive but it doesn't approach the cost of buying the equipment and learning to use any type of welding. A good drill bit will do whatever you want to do on that keg/fermenter for a lot less.
