Nelson Sauvin?

Two weeks ago I would have guessed this was the name of a famous Belgain brewer, but I just recently found out this a variety of hop from New Zealand. I was given 10 ounces of pellets at 11.4% AA, and am now wondering what beer might showcase these unique (supposed to impart sauvignon blanc grape character to beer) hops. I've got a smack pack of WYeast 2124, so my first thought was german pilsner, but now I think that a Kolsch might be the way to go. :? Anyone have a good recipe using NS?

I made an APA with these that turned out really good. I don't have my recipe in front of me but it was based off of Jamil's crystal free APA. This beer has a great aroma and the hops definitely do have that almost tart white wine grape flavor. That's a pretty nice gift, I spent $24 in s&h for approximately 6 ozs. of these. They work very well for dry hopping to get that pungent aroma.

6th ST - Thanks. I like the APA idea, as I would get to taste the beer sooner. I also got some palisades the same way that I thought I'd do an APA with. Maybe I'll do the same recipe/hops schedule for each.

Palisades make a pretty nice APA. The one time I used them it turned out really good. Never had the Nelson Sauvin, though.

I noticed Jon has a boatload of Aussie/New Zealand/other Pacific hops over at Mt. HB in Kirkland.
We've been going through a bunch of homegrown stuff over here, so I haven't bought any of these yet, but I expect that sooner or later I will be.

BDawg - Thanks for the +1 on palisade APA, it's in the brew queue now. The NS will be our first New Zealand hop beer, but won't be our last. Jon @ Mt. HB has nice things to say about most of the new varieties as he has made a simple Pale Ale from each. I may try a Riwaka APA soon. :jnj Mike

I brewed a Strong Lager over the winter, 1.068 OG 1.008 FG which I used Nelson Sauvin. I wanted to see if I could get a beer that has some wine flavor components and came pretty close with this beer. A friend of mine made a Pale Ale with them and used too much and the flavor was odd. Based on that, I went light handed with them.

For a 5.5 gallon batch I used (23.5 IBU)

.50 oz Nelson Sauvin FWH
.80 oz Liberty 60 min
.25 oz Nelson Sauvin 10 minutes

I brought this beer to the NCHF over the weekend and it was pretty popular.
