Since when do you factor in ROI when buying toys?

I finally collected the last piece of equipment I need to go all grain. I'll be brewing my first solo all grain this Saturday (an APA from Brewing Classic Styles) And it only took me 15 years to make the jump from extract to all grain.

Ah for me, it's just a way to help explain that AG is generally not cheaper than extract, if you factor all the extra shit you end up buying.

When talking to the wife. I don't think she buys it, but she plays along since her toy is an airplane.
Aging: Gotlandsdrickå, Baltic Porter in Bourbon barrel, Olde Ale #2 in whiskey barrel
On Draft: Nothing. Building a walk-in cooler right now.

You should talk to BadRock. He can hook you up with better toys:

I agree with Mylo about getting the basics down with extract.

Sanitation must be mastered. Then Fermentation temp control completely changed my beer for the better. It was something I had always kind of ignored when I first started out. Once I got a handle on that my brews were 100% better.

Another thing I overlooked, the significance of my water source. I quit brewing extract and it took me 1.5 years to get my AG system up and running. That was when I figured out that my water was the cause of all my terrible extract beer. Among other things.

Looking back, I still think brewing extract with grains is a great place to start. Jumping into AG right from the start would be overwhelming to say the least. Extract brewing gets you into learning the basics and the most important part of the brew day. Which IMHO is the time you turn off the flame until you pour the first pint. That is the most critical part of brewday.
