The IBU numbers in Beersmith will change as you change your efficiency. The book assumes 7 gallons at the start of the boil with a 15% loss to evaporation, 5.5 gallons into the fermenter. I don't believe Jamil says what efficiency he has. Your numbers may vary, but when I use a recipe from the book I adjust it to hit the IBU and gravity numbers based on my system. I use the recipe's weights and measures as a guide.
