We had a thread on this over at the B3 forum a while back. It's sort of apples and oranges with these two programs, IMHO. TBN is a live, honest-to-God radio show with interaction between listener and Brewcasters while BBR is strictly a guy in a room with a tape recorder. Not saying his content isn't good, but as someone over on the other forum mentioned, it comes across like an infomercial. The guy is obviously a professional announcer and his delivery is way bland.

I agree alot with Beer Pal. Basic Brewing Radio has some good content, but it is about as exciting as watching paint dry. I have downloaded two shows now and they both have good content, but the broadcaster reminds me of a bad PBS style radio show. The Vienna lager show with Colby as the guest was pretty good as long as Colby was talking.
Like I said at B3, BBR is like going to a brewing class. TBN is like going to a brewclub meeting - lots more fun.
I still listen to both; I do a lot of driving.
Be wary of strong drink. It can make you shoot at tax collectors -- and miss.

He has a nice website but, jeez.....I just keep waiting for the "beep" to tell me when to advance the film-strip. What a bland delivery....too bad... nice production value and Lot of good content.

First, I have met a bunch of great people and gotten tons of information from TBN.
But to be honest, I almost like the Basic Brewing show better beicause I am just begining at this hobby and for me the nugets of information I have recieived from Basic Brewing have been easier to get than with the TBN. I love the entertainment of the show but for me the infomation on brewing is what has kept me around.
The truth is, something inbetween the two would be great for me.
I am unable to listen live to TBN now because of a change in jobs so I have to get the podcasts so I have to listen to recorded content. I think that makes a difference in the two shows though. If you can interact with TBN and be in the chat room it makes it more fun and you get some good information on beer brewing. So that will keep you guys on top as far as entertainment value. Basic Brewing is like checking out a book on a particular subject to get info and for some, that is all they need.
I do think both of these venues will survive because they will draw different audiences for sure.
Maybe Brewcaster J can interview Jim Spencer on one of the shows and TBN audience can give him some feedback on the show while see what it's like to be on yours.
Final word: One's a stream the others a podcast... two different media types and they actually can compliment each other.
I understand what you are saying, 2dog. The type of information you are looking for actually takes place primarily in the chat room. Too bad you have to miss that portion of it. The chat room is pretty much half the program, a combination of commentary on what the brewecasters are saying and doing along with a great question and answer session on brewing.
I do agree that there is not a lot of "nuts and bolts" brewing information for new brewers on the broadcasts. There are a lot of tidbits for more more advanced brewers. I am not quite sure what they can do about that short of formally scheduling a portion of each program (or an entire program on an occasional basis) on basic brewing techniques.
Maybe someone could offer to put together another program for TBN. This could be a brewing course of sorts. Perhaps discussion of a different aspect of brewing each week along with a question and answer session. Gear the thing towards getting people to fully understand each step, as opposed to simply following the directions on a kit or blindly following a recipe.
Something along this line would make TBN even better and draw in even more folks.
