Depending on the AA% of the hops, that might not be quite long enough. You should let it go a week and then pull a sample for quality control purposes. Give it a taste and a sniff and see how you like it. I dry hop with whole leaf hops and usually just leave it in until the keg runs dry.

One hint on the hop bags. Don't use them! Instead run down to you local Walmart and pick up some knee high nylons. They are only 3 pair for a buck. The finer mesh makes them perfect for hopping with pellets. The regular hop bags are much too coarse. All sorts of sludge will get through the holes.

Hmmm...I wonder if WalMart employees will notice the surge in nylon sales to dudes after this post.

Amen to that! I use those for dry-hopping as well, works great!

Just threw my hop pellets (1 oz cascade) into a kneehigh with a couple marbles to sink it, tied off the top and dropped it in (after sanitizing the knee-highs and marbles of course.) I'll pass on a progress report at bottling time.

Well, I just bottled my dry hopped batches of beer using knee high stockings;

Diabolical Double IPA O.G. 1.101
- with 3 oz Columbus

Madelyn's Hop Elixir "a Il Vicino-Blaksvn Hybrid brew" O.G. 1.075
- with 3 oz. Cascade and 1 oz. Chinook & 1.5 oz American Oak Chips

After this test of the nylons I found that the nylon really does well with upto 4oz. of pellets but I think I'll try only 2 oz. of pellets per stocking for the next few batchs which may make it bit quicker to get out of a carboy.

They both tasted great at bottling time but I think the DIPA was a bit too much for me (not hops but alcohol!) - BTW I did not add any weights (forgot!) to the stockings and had no apperent ill effects.

BEST OF LUCK TO ALL!!!!

I've always dry hopped with pellets (tho, as it turns out, I have some leaves in my fridge for my current batch), and I don't bother filtering them. I just siphon into the keg and in the time that it takes to carbonate, the tiny amount of flakes that make it into the keg collect on the bottom, and are gone in the first 2 pints. No big deal!

Don't know if they are available where you are but my local shop carries these things called hop socks. They are just that....fine meshed socks and I have had no problem dry hopping with pellets with them. Rather use plugs but my shop only carries certain varieties in them.
