First up is Hop Grenade. From the folks behind the Brewing Network, a popular local craft and home brew–oriented internet radio station, the new bar/studio is taking over Panama Red Café in Todos Santos Plaza. According to the Brewing Network’s Scott Moskowitz, they’ll be getting the keys for the space this weekend, with plans to turn it into a craft beer–centric bar. The new headquarters (currently in downtown Martinez) for the network will have a built-in studio where they’ll record their shows.
No surprise here, but the beer list should be pretty sweet. Expect 20 craft beers on tap with some better-known breweries—Russian River and Jester King—as well as some that might be a little harder to find, even in this increasingly beer-obsessed part of the world. “We definitely have a penchant for sour beers, so we’ll have some of those on tap. There will be experimental and barrel aged stuff—we aim to bat 20 for 20 for our beers on tap,” Moskowitz says.
In other words, don’t go there looking for Bud and MGD. They’ll also have a bunch of bottled beers, as well as high-end bar snacks such as Bavarian pretzels, charcuterie, and panini. Expect plenty of events in addition to the radio shows, including music and meet-the-brewer nights, which will take advantage of their ample outdoor patio.
As for an opening, Moskowitz said they’d be shooting for the end of April, early May. thebrewingnetwork.com.
