Larry, my condolences. Dog lover here, and my wife is a small animal vet. It's sometimes a tough decision, sometimes an easy one. Pancreatic cancer in my cocker a few years ago, my Golden is 17 years old and we are watching a few things that have popped up on her bloodwork. You sound like a good responsible owner and Snickers was truly a companion.

Lucybear - you suck. You had to do the Rainbow Bridge thing. I cry every time I see that damned poem.

Larry -
As a small animal vet, I have had to *perform* this procedure more times than I can count.

I sleep well at night because I know when we make this decision for our friends, it's for the right reason.

You gave your friend the help she needed. If you need anything, PM me and I'll be glad to help any way I can.

Raising my glass to Snickers!

Larry, I sorry for your loss Brother. I love my little Bessie just like you, but you did the right thing man. His suffering is done and has no pain anymore. Believe what you want but I believe that one day we will all be reunited with ALL of our loved ones. Stay strong man.

Larry,
I was in your shoes this past Monday at 11 am and had to put down our 16 year old lab/border collie mix, Napa. She had essentially just stopped eating for 4 days and finally collapsed on her bed.
It was a long slow drive to the vet, stopping every few miles to check on her, hoping she'd somehow bounce back to her old self.
I had to do this ten years ago with our previous dog who had battled lymphoma for 15 months before his liver failed. It was no easier this time, especially since Napa was my dad's dog I had adopted when he passed away suddenly. She became my shadow for the last 8 years and I was nearly attached to her as my own kids. It will hurt for a while, but what helped for me was to bury her by the tree she loved to sleep under. I hope that I saved her some hours of misery; it was the least that I could do.
RIP Snickers and Napa.

I'm not even an animal person and that made me well up.

I am a dad, though. While surely devastating, through the ordeal your daughter is learning a great deal about her emotional self, the value of friends, and how precious life and love really are.

Wishing your family the best.

Hey man it sucks, we just lost 2 dogs within 3 or so months, one pretty young to cancer of the spleen and bladder by the time we realized it he was in kidney failure and surgery wasn't an option, my parents put him down. The other had had a tumor for years but it was in too bad of place to operate, we think it finally went bad, she was older and there wasn't much we could do, we couldn't bring her to the vet...she stopped eating and on a sunday morning with everyone around she passed...I see my mom cry at the drop of a hat, but to see my dad bawling like a baby kills me.

All the best to you.

BTW Lucy, you're a dick, makes it real hard to type with tears in your eyes...
