Anybody ever rent an RV?

Thu Jul 21, 2011 9:17 am

Thinking about renting a small RV (19' or so) for a short camping trip next month. Have checked a couple places online and have been shocked at the rental prices- about $500/day!

I'm in the Bay Area and wonder if anybody has any recommendations for more reasonable rentals- there's no way I'm kicking down a couple of grand to rent a van with a camper on the back for a few days. I could stay a week in a nice hotel in any city in the world for what these things run for a long weekend.

Looks like a quick search on Craigslist could save you some coin. We rented an RV several years ago from a private party, and it was great. Gas prices were not where they are today though.

I think the Good Sam Club is just that, an RV club. You join and can get discounts on campgrounds and accessories at particpating retailers etc. They don't sell or rent RVs.

I thought maybe they'd have some information about renting RV's and stuff like that. Maybe there'd even be people on the Good Sam Club website in your area and willing to rent you their RV? Seems like a real community over there of people who all share a common interest

A bit of searching on their site shows me they have forums, but I did notice that it appears the Good Sam Club is a nationwide club. They probably don't hold regular member meetings and while they do charge dues to be a member to receive discounts, you don't have to be a member to benefit from their forums.
We all know that's completely unacceptable to you and in addition, the Good Sam Club isn't a "real" club anyway so I can see why you wouldn't ever visit their site looking for information.

Good luck with your search though!
