You should remove all of the leaves for the first 1 1/2 to 2 feet of the vine to help keep bugs away and mold from happening. Hopefully that helps you. There is a great show on growing hops in the Archive for The Session. Check it out.

Turn the leaves over and look for groups of tiny bumps. If you see any, rub them off with your fingers as they are bug eggs. That may keep it from getting worse continually. My hops are in the ground. I don't thing I wanna spray Safers Soap or pesticides on my hops but I'm thinking of trying a pepper oil spray. I'd rather have pepper oil than soap in my beer.
