Fat Rabbits

Sun Feb 20, 2011 5:44 pm

Anybody else out there have any wildlife that likes to eat spent grain?
I have a pair of rabbits that come and bed down in the stuff. Pretty funny to see the path they use from the neighbors' shed to the grain pile.
They are larger than the average rabbit because they are getting a pretty regular supply of grain.
I wonder which they prefer, the makings of an esb or the porter grains that were just tossed out there.

I Have a bunch of old unused grain from when i had time to brew at home, the squirrels LOVE it. I went from 2 of them, and now 10 or more. Its funny to watch them scatter when i pull in the driveway or walk out the door. Drives the cats crazy. Those little buggers are gettin nice and plump, next fall im gonna be eatin a few!

I made the mistake of feeding the rabbits all my spent grains one winter. The next year the bunny population BOOMED and the little bastards ate half my landscape the following winter. Needless to say no more free meals for the rabbits.

Last year I was feeding the grains to the wild turkeys. They liked it so much, they took up roosting on my patio furniture and leaving their calling cards everywhere. On the other hand, thanks to their tameness and my bow, a few of them ended up in my freezer. :D

Somehow I'm picturing Bug's bow as one he made himself...
