I had an infection from using nibs in the same manner you did. What I do not know is if that batch was infected before i added the nibs in the first place. If the smell gets worse, before it gets better you've got yourself a drain pour!

I did some experimentation with nibs roasted about 10 hours before I put them in the beer.
6, 7, 10, 20 and 33g/1000ml. The beer wasnt that great, just a testbatch of really mild porter and not quite
suited for the job. I prefered the 6g/1000. But in a stronger one (8+ ABV)i'd push it up to about 8 -10g
And i guess you need something bigger for those kind of flavors.

Didnt sanitize the nibs and in one of the samples forgotten in the fridge i found an infection.

Theres no stouts or porters on the brew schedule for a while now, but i will give it another go
when i brew the Imperial christm.. sorry, holiday stout.
