Why no more asking the brewer for recipes?

Thu Jul 15, 2010 7:18 pm

I'm a bit behind on the shows (I'm almost finished the adjuct/guy from Nebraska show), but I've noticed that Justin has stopped asking brewers for recipes during interviews. I know once or twice the brewers didn't really want to give one, so is that why he stopped? Is there a story here?

There haven't been a lot of brewers on in the last couple months with NHC coverage and homebrew information shows, but I believe they did get a recipe from Odonata for the Saison. So I think they are still doing it when they are not so drunk to ask.

I was actually really excited for the Mark Stutrud from Summit episode; Summit's my adopted local (because I don't have a local brewery).

I was a little bummed that we didn't get a recipe (like their awesome Horizon Red, Oatmeal Stout, or Unchained Rye Pale Ale) but they do a good job of listing their ingredients on their website so I'm not too terribly worried about it.

I don't get to listen live so I can't help too much (therefore I can't complain), and maybe the chatroom's already doing this, but it might be worth it to ask for a recipe in the chat next time.

Why not shoot the brewery/brewer an e-mail and ask him yourself??? I have done this before, and "MOST" of the time, get great results. Unless it's like Stone and their Arrogant Bastard, but even Jamil and Tasty couldn't get that recipe outta Greg.!!! If they don't get the exact recipe, maybe they can at least steer you in the right direction.

Randy from Ommegang wouldn't give Ommegang recipes, but he did give us a recipe for a Saison, that was darned tasty. Even Dan Carey from New Glarus gave a recipe. It wasn't one he brewed, but it sounded good.

I've been missing the recipes, too. Letter to the Brewcaster in Chief will shortly be on the way.
