Struise-Mikkeler

Sat Apr 19, 2008 3:29 pm

Picked this one up from greens in Atlanta...

Neat bottle with a very complete description, enough to make the mouth water... " Sruise-Mikkeler is a distinguished 'Double IPA' of 130 IBU..."

Pours a nice orangey/yellow hazy color and velvety. Smells spicy, fruity, slight clove/phenols. Has very good mouthfeel, high carbonation takes this 9.0% off the toungue quickly. Has a nice grapefruit finish. Very fruity.

All I can say is F****** awesome! Get you some!

I found this thread a bit confusing because I have sitting in front of me a bottle of Mikkeller Black Hole coffee stout. Then I noticed the slight difference in spelling (2 L's instead of 1). The Mikkeller brothers that own and run this brewery are from Denmark but brew the beer in Belgium. I'll give a review of the beer tomorrow since I don't plan to open it until our brew club meeting tonight.

Same guy Bug. Just a typo on the topic name.

How'd the like the Black Hole Stout? It's one of my all-time favorites. I've killed more than one keg of it. Lately I've been searching for some Beer Geek Breakfast.

Mikkel Borg Bjergsø is kind of a gypsy brewer. He doesn't have a brewery location but brews his beer at other breweries in Europe. BeerAvocate Magazine did a profile of him in the last issue.

That Black Hole Stout was one of the most incredible beers I have ever had! I wish it wasn't so damned expensive or I would have a whole fridge full of it. I'm going to pick up a few more bottles to set back for next winter.

Black Hole is a great description of it. So dark it practically sucks the light out of the room when you pour it! Definitely the smoothest stout I have ever had. Nice and creamy. A couple folks at our brew club meeting the other night said this would be great poured over ice cream. I don't know what the FG is on this beer, but it is slightly sweet and very thick. It is over 13% ABV so I would imagine the an FG of 1.030 would be reasonable.

This is definitely a beer I will visit again...... and again ........ and again!
