Jack's Pumpkin spice ale

Sat Sep 29, 2007 5:18 am

I was in the local grocery stor last night picking up some maple syrup for a mead my brew partner were making, and while I was there i thought i would check out the seasonal brews. I am planning on making a pumpkin spiced ale so I looked for something similiar to taste and take notes. I decided on "Jacks Pumpkin Spice Ale". I was kinda in a hurry so i didnt examine it too much. Upon getting home I cracked one open, actually unscrewed itat which point was my first sign. Tasted and wasnt impressed at all. hardly any pumpkin or spice flavor, very week. WTF I thought, then i examined the bottle to find the dreaded print of "product of anheuser-busch, St. Louis, MO" on the side label. At this point I was more upset at my impatience of deciding on it, so i said the hell with it and drank several down. if your tempted in buying a sixer of it, DON'T. Its not worth it and if you do, you will be sadly dissapointed. Dont waste your time/money/ or liver on the crap.

Thats strange the sixer I picked had great aroma and spice flavor. But I also have to ask are we sure this is a bad beer from ab. I mean they did buy out old domminion last winter. I bet they did this beer out at old domminion as a pilot batch and scaled it up to production. It is definately an all malt beer.

I may have gotten a poor batch. Its not terrible, but definitely drinkable. I was expecting a more full body and spicey brew I guess.

I had a sixth bbl of the spring spiced wheat last spring and it was tasty for a wheat beer. I have yet to try theyre winter or summer special brew.

This is definitely an AB brew, they have been making this for a few years. I tried it on tap the other day, the owner wanted me to try it, it was ok. It had very subtle flavors of pumpkin pie spices. It was better than I expected but I also want the spices subdued on a beer like this. The one I brewed I couldn't drink because of the spices.
