samuel adams latitude 48 - Pretty much my first ipa

So this beer was pretty much my first IPA. I honestly don't what to think of it. This may be a stupid question, but what should i be expecting from an IPA style of beer?

Fairly bitter, lots of hop aroma and flavor.

I've thought that it's ok, but not great, but it certainly isn't my first IPA, and it may just be that I've had many others that I've found much more enjoyable.

I haven't tried this but from the way I heard some one describing the beer It sounded like they focused on an herbal more european type hop character.

I tend to favor the citrus flavors that are more predominantly found in west coast IPA's which is not this beer.

From someone who only recently came into the IPA fold...don't form an opinion until you've had at least 4 or 5 more IPAs. It's just too much to ask of your tongue to get around the bitterness and do some tasting.

I think it is a good IPA but not all that great. I will buy it again. I think Bell's 2 Hearted is much better. Give that a shot if you can get it.

I'm not sure I understand why but Ipa's seem to be a very hit or miss subject...at least for me and people I know. Either love it or hate it. I haven't noticed a whole lot of overlap.

Just 1 opinion, though.

They did an interesting thing with that beer. There was a deconstructed 12pack with two of the regular ipa's and two each of all of the single hop varieties. EKG, Ahtanum, Simcoe, Zeus and Hallertau Mittelfrueh. Not sure how wide the distribution was but it was interesting to taste them side by side.
