Carling (Black Label) (UK & North America)

Sun Jun 26, 2005 1:33 pm

Definitely not a great example of an American lager. Pale is the correct term for this beer. Pale in color, pale in taste, pale in comparison to everything out there. My batch was way over carbonated. Smelled like tin foil. Looked like a watered down Bud. Not much head on this critter, either. No discernable hops aroma or taste, for that matter. I guess it was good back in the day, but not now, that much is certain.

sounds about right for the commercial version. if you'd tried it you'd stay away from a copy of it.
kegged-one light summer ale
kegged- one ordinary bitter
bottled- celebration ale
fermenting- ordinary bitter

I haven't had a Carling Black Label for many years. My memory of it is that it is the absolute worst beer (short of being skunked or infected) I have ever tasted. I absolutely hate Budweiser, but I would drink that over a Carling any day if forced to choose. Carling is a beer to be avoided.

In 1969-1971, I used to drink Carling Black label.

In Okinawa, in the Air Force base coffee shop at 7AM after getting off work, it was the most refreshing thing you could get for 10 cents a bottle.

The local brew Orion, was only 7 cents a bottle but had an unappetizing green tinge to it.

It's also the top selling lager in the UK. I have to admit, when I was there having a cold one on tap was pretty good as far as Carling is concerned.

Repellent.
