Upslope IPA, cause that's the only real beer I've had that was in a can in the last 20 years!
The can says; "Upslope India Pale Ale. Bold, deep, bitter" and 7.2% ABV.
The ingredients section reads:
Snowmelt
Malt
Patagonian Hops
Yeast
Patagonia is the southern tip of Argentina, and may (or may not) be contiguous with Tierra del Fuego (I haven't looked at a map this week). The ex and I once thought of retiring and buying Tierra del Fuego (whose chief export is penguins). Either that or a cave in north Arkansas; the price would be about the same either way.
The Upslope website is a wordpress sub-domain, and there's not a lot of info on the brews there. Hopefully this will change.
The beer pours with a nice tan head that fades in 10+ minutes. It is about SRM 13, and has significant crystal malt sweetness. There is a good (almost English) crystal malt nose which leads me to believe that the crystal malt SRM is 80L or higher. I don't get a lot of aroma hops, or they are obscured by the crystal malt aroma. Bitterness is moderate, not quite at the Torpedo level, so I'm guessing between 65 and 70 IBU.
Overall it is a nice session beer with pleasing malt notes that will not turn off a novice beer drinker, and might entice him to try something more adventurous.
That's all I've got,
Charlie
"Yes officer, I know that I smell like beer. I'm not drinking it, I'm wearing it!"
