Sometimes these collaboration beers turn out to be like two guitar gods playing on the same stage at the same time. Sure they are great but everything becomes so mixed up and unorganized. Ever watch Clapton's Cossroads concerts?

Mylo, Papago has one of them on tap, I thought Limb and Life but now I am not certain. It was dark for sure so I don't think it was the runnings. I was up there for the Bells release, mmmm, bells.

All this mention of limb and no "wood" jokes; honestly, I am disappointed.
On Tap: Dark Mild (x2), Honey Hefe
Fermenting: A.Bastard Clone, Wee Heavy, S/70, Eng. Barleywine

Yeah, I did make it over the day after the Bells launch - and I did get some on tap, and went home with a bottle, too.

So was it the lighter beer in bottles and on tap then?

Secondly, you missed the Bells launch AND the christmas party, shame!

Anyone in Sonoma County should be able to find bombers in an Oliver's Market for 9.99. Just bought two to add to my dad's cellar-able beer Christmas gift.

review:
this beer confuses the shit out of me.
its like there a really complex beer hiding behind a big bland beer.
Dont get me wrong, I enjoy it and its really good, but I'm having a hard time understanding it. I've had plenty of DFH and SN and I'm trying to find the influences of each brewery in the final beer. I get a very very minor roast charachter that really reminds me of DFH Indian Brown, not at all as roasty as that beer, but the same character to the roast, althought barely perceivable. It tastes like its mashed at 153F, great balance between sweetness and finish, but I think it might be actually mashed a little lower maybe 151F-152F and the alcohol is contibuting to the perceived sweetness because it finishes just dry enough that i want to take another sip right away but the alcohol content is slowing me down. the alcohol is not hot, but its definitely there. tastes like almost all the hops were bittering and almost has a mild belgian dubbel maltiness but without the belgian yeast charachter. i think cellaring might not be a bad idea, i'd like it just a little less bitter, but not much, and maybe it would give the beer time to develop little complexity. i'd like to try it in a year or so. also, ive had half a bottle at 5pm without any food whatsoever today and i'm feeling it.

This is kind of what I was thinking. It's like you can just barely perceive the uniqueness in there (birch and maple influences), but the bittering just slightly gets in the way, which is probably by design so that it can be aged nicely. I'm looking forward to trying it a year or two down the road with my old man. On a side note, I think the artwork on the label is pretty nifty.

Note to self: Using 3 adverbs in one sentence really makes you sound like a douche.

i'd like to formally apologize to both DFH and SN. my initial review was hasty and conducted in the wrong environment. i was so excited that i found this beer that i opened it right when i got home from the store and didn't let the beer come to the proper temperature. i drank the first half as soon as i got home at fridge temps, then i made dinner for an hour or so and returned to the second half. the complex beer hiding behind a big bland beer has gone. letting it come closer to room temp combined the flavors and melded the complexity, plus it lost almost all its carbonation and became a little port like. this is a great beer when served at the proper temp. i get licorice, sasparilla, not rootbeer, sasparilla, and more alcohol in the nose as it warmed up. too bad its gone, gonna have to go get some more tomorrow, also the bottle didn't register at the check out stand and the checker asked me what it cost and i could have said anything, but lying is wrong so i said, i think it was $2.99.
