Rogue Morimoto Soba

Sat Jan 23, 2010 6:05 pm

I was surprised that a search did not return any results for this beer on BN. It's got a pretty unique flavor, presumably from the buckwheat (Soba). Very dry and refreshing. I imagine it would go well with lighter japanese foods. I plan on trying this with a nice bowl of Soba noodle soup.

On a sidenote, has anyone tried brewing with buckwheat? If so, were the results o-tay?

i have not brewed beer with buckwheat. I have used and read about buckwheat honey for a mead. Buckwheat honey is very "strong" buckwheaty flavor. it is easy to over due it.

1 option would be to add a pound of buckwheat honey to a brew and see what flavors come about.
2 this could even be added to the primary a little at a time once the krausen has dropped. keep sampling it daily and add more until it is where you want it. careful buckwheat is potent!! in flavor.

happy brewing
