Yards ESA/ESB

Mon Mar 04, 2013 10:02 am

Hey guys, I'm getting ready to brew an ESB for a local competition (Yard's Brewing) The contest is that you have to clone one of their beers. I chose the Yards Extra Sepcial Ale and I have formulated the recipe below. Has anyone ever hard a yards ESA

The Specs are from their site are

IBU:44
Plato: 16
Malt: Pale,Crystal,Chocolate
Hops: East Kent Golding
ABV: 6%

It looks like I have a match based on the specs, but I am unsure about the hop additions. This beer has a nice smooth bitterness and I slight floral hop aroma. The SRM on the website apears to be around 15-16, but other sites on the web put it as 26 (which I think is too dark)

It looks like a decent recipe. Is that the yeast they use? Cause getting the wrong yeast can change the beer completely. The 25 for color is probably EBC which is a European measuring system. It's usually about double SRM. If I did that comp I probably would have done brawler or Philly pale ale, I love those beers. All in all I think you are on the right track
