Ace hole inspired pale ale!

Sat Dec 15, 2012 6:01 am

After a longer than expected hiatus from regular brewing (due to new job, new baby, and new university course!) I'm planning on firing up the kettle tomorrow! The plan is a sorachi pale ale inspired by Justin's Ace hole pale. Not everyones cup of tea but I really like sorachi ace.

A fairly simple pale ale grist, with a no nonsense hop schedule should make for a relaxed return to the fold! :D

23L
Expected OG: 1.055
Expected FG: 1.013
Colour: 8.4SRM
IBU: 39 (rager)
BU:GU - 0.72

Mash efficiency : 80%
60min boil

Fermentables

Pale Ale Malt 86%
Amber Malt 4%
Munich Malt 4%
CaraMunich II 4%
Medium Crystal 2%

JP Sorachi Ace 14.9 % 14 g 60 Min From End
JP Sorachi Ace 14.9 % 30 g 10 Min From End
JP Sorachi Ace 14.9 % 30 g At turn off

Yeast
US-05

Water wise I'm gonna leave it relatively alone as we have moderately soft water. CRS and sodium met to HLT, 5g gypsum to the mash and 10g in the boil to try and crisp up the hop presence.

I couldn't find a 'brewday' thread section so hope this is posted in the right section! :D any comments of suggestions welcomed! :D

Cheers

I would think using regular Sorachi Ace instead of the JP variety would get you less of a :nutters: flavor. :D
