Mom's House

Fri Sep 23, 2011 11:18 pm

After getting some crap from another homebrewer, I realized I often take from forums but never give so I'm posting the recipe that won on BYOB TV. Also I never post on forums, so please cut me some slack if this is posted in the wrong spot or if I'm forgetting something.

This is my house beer, designed to be cheap, quick and a constant crowd-pleaser. There are only two hop varieties, and the amounts they are packaged in at my LHBS worked out perfect. At my LHBS it comes in at just under 50 bucks for a ten gallon batch. My original inspirations were Tasty's APA, Pale 31, and New Dogtown Pale, with some tweaks, but I loved that hop flavor. I tried to keep the hopping so I got that flavor while trying to maintain budget friendliness.

82% American 2 row
8.9% carapils
4.4% white wheat
4.4% honey malt

mashed at about 149, batch sparged

then,
1.5 oz Amarillo @60
.25 oz Citra @60

.5 oz Amarillo @ 25
.5 oz Citra @25

.5 oz Amarillo @ 10
1.0 oz Citra @10

.5 oz Citra @ FO

1.5 oz Amarillo dry hop
1.5 oz Citra dry hop

I normally use liquid yeasts but for this to keep costs down it's safale us-05
I shoot for 1.054, and usually end around 1.012. BeerSmith says 48 IBU's

let me know what you think...
