Hey yelloww,

I was just going through the archive as well and the Galena is .38 oz not .30.

I didn't here what Alpha % he had for his hops...did you?

Thanks for posting these.

While you're correcting recipes, you may want to see my note on the Green Flash WCIPA - noting the disparity between what Chuck the brewer said and what Tasty McD said. Cheers!

I would need Tasty's or (Jamil) blessing to change this recipe. The clone has been done this way....

Cheers !

So here's a dumb assed question:

Why would you have 2 bittering additions with hops that have similar alpha acid %? Since they are 60 minute additions, wouldn't flavor and aroma pretty much be boiled off ( I realize there may be some, but how much really )?

Would you notice much of a difference if you just did a 60 minute addition of .76 oz of one or the other? ( or adjust for AA% differences to hit targe IBU's )

I realize this is what the brewer said so this is how they do they recipe, but I was wondering?

Ok...let the bashing begin :)

From my own experience, bittering hops do add "flavor characteristics" that I can detect in a finished beer. Different bittering hops give you also a different mouthfeel.

A good test for you would be to split a 5 gal batch in two, use Chinook @ 60min on one batch and use Magnum @ 60 min with the second batch (Try to target approx same IBU with both hops.). For hop flavor and aroma, please be sure to use same hops/quantity. You're gonna see. The two beers are gonna be quite different. Chinook is going to give you a more harsh bitterness , Magnum bitterness is going to be more smooth, less aggressive.

If you want all the explanations behind this, we're gonna need to some from the experts.

I brewed this recipe a few weeks ago and tapped it on Sunday for the Super Bowl. I must say that it turned out very nice. I have brewed several amber's over the years and have never liked any of them. This one is a keeper.
