Anybody used golden promise before. Is it good as the only base malt or would it be good to blend it with two-row or marris otter.

Its pretty similar to maris so you wouldnt be able to pick it out. You can blend it with 2-row is you want a touch more of that malty, biscuity character but not as prominent as most UK styles. Either way, you should think of it as a base malt just like maris otter.

Hop wise, I prefer EKG to fuggles. Fuggles plus crystal malt always ends up tasting like sweet tea to me. If I was thinking of using fuggles, I would use styrians or willamettes instead. But ultimately, they would all be as a compliment to the EKGs which would be focus of the flavoring and aroma.

Heres my very simple ESB recipe

95% maris otter or golden promise
5% medium crystal

any high alpha bittering hop at 60 (you can use less and you wont know the difference....magnum, warrior, summit all work)
.5oz willamette 15 mins
1oz EKG 5 mins

get around 35 IBUs

ferment with english yeast of choice (I use s-04)
