Re: Parti-gyle Recipes

i just did my first parti-gyle IIPA followed by adding some more 2row, roasted barley, choc malt and some pBlack for an American Stout. then found out that my hydrometer broke! anyway this saved me from using 10# i purchased before deciding on parti-gyle. so now i have enough for a third 5g batch. saved some wort to measure OG when i get a new hydrometer so i can try to figure out efficiency. i used beersmith and calculated my second recipe on 50% less efficiency than the first batch...hope that does it.

cheers

I did a dopplebock and an Alt parti-gyle last month. So far the gravities were 1.092 and 1.051. Not bad. I think i got 63% and 45% effiecency for the 2 beers. They're lagering away as we type. here's the dopplebock recipe:
Amount Item Type % or IBU
3.00 lb Light Dry Extract (8.0 SRM) Dry Extract 13.48 %
12.00 lb Munich Malt (7.0 SRM) Grain 53.91 %
3.00 lb Pilsner (2 Row) Ger (2.0 SRM) Grain 13.48 %
3.00 lb Vienna Malt (3.5 SRM) Grain 13.48 %
0.63 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 SRM) Grain 2.83 %
0.63 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt -120L (120.0 SRM) Grain 2.83 %
1.00 oz Vanguard [4.40 %] (60 min) Hops 9.6 IBU
2.00 oz Saaz [2.90 %] (60 min) Hops 12.6 IBU
1.10 tsp Irish Moss (Boil 10.0 min) Misc
8.00 gal Detroit, Mi Water Water
1 Pkgs German Lager (White Labs #WLP830) [Starter 35 ml] Yeast-Lager

Beer Profile

Measured Original Gravity: 1.091 SG
Measured Final Gravity: 1.022 SG
Actual Alcohol by Vol: 9.05 %
Bitterness: 22.2 IBU Calories: 423 cal/pint
Est Color: 19.8 SRM

For the alt i added 8oz of CaraMunich and 4 oz of Carafa I. I also used .6oz Magnum @ 14.4% for 60 and .4oz 15 minutes. GOtta bottle soon. give a whirl, what could happen..

Cheers.

Excellent links Nate. Answered just about every question I had about splitting a batch up. I just made a barleywine/bitter awhile back. The bitter is still pouring and I have yet to get the barleywine out of secondary. It went from 1.084 to 1.014, so I am pretty happy with that! Only another month and a half until I can test her out! :bnarmy:

You can always add smoked malt and a handful of two row and remash. The water being added will drive the temp of the mash.

The other option is that you don't have to do a mash out on the first runnings mash.

I got a Gold Medal for the Dopplebock I did parti-gyle! Scored a 42.5! :D Not bad for my first Comp. The Alt did ok, 38, but I wasn't trying to hard to hit the style. I think I'll do it again, but instead of an Alt I'll go for a dunkel or smoked Bock or something. I've got time to play with it.
Thanks to Cuda for the links. They helped alot too!

This thread gives my recipe for English Wheat Wine / Berliner Weisse partigyle. The added bonus being you only have to boil one brew on the first brewday, then sparge and boil the second two days later.
