Re: Parti-gyle Recipes

Another Partygyle to create a IPA and APA from the same mash. The grain bill was based off RR Blind Pig and is as follows

Recipe Specifications
--------------------------
Batch Size: 11.25 gal
Boil Size: 14.13 gal
Estimated OG: 1.060 SG
Estimated Color: 5.5 SRM
Estimated IBU: 0.0 IBU
Brewhouse Efficiency: 81.00 %
Boil Time: 90 Minutes

Ingredients:
------------
Amount Item Type % or IBU
19.86 lb Great Western 2 Row (2.0 SRM) Grain 88.14 %
1.15 lb Cara-Pils/Dextrine (2.0 SRM) Grain 5.08 %
0.76 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 40L (40.0 SRM) Grain 3.39 %
0.76 lb White Wheat Malt (2.4 SRM) Grain 3.39 %

Mash Schedule: Single Infusion, Medium Body
Total Grain Weight: 22.53 lb
----------------------------
Single Infusion, Medium Body
Step Time Name Description Step Temp
60 min Mash In Add 28.00 qt of water at 166.0 F 154.0 F
10 min Mash Out Add 15.77 qt of water at 196.5 F 168.0 F

From that I sparged most of the first runnings into one kettle and some into another kettle, then spread the rest of the runnings between the 2 kettles to get a 1.066 (I went a little higher on this by accident) gravity for the IPA and 1.052 for the APA, well that is the Post boil OG.

Re: Parti-gyle Recipes

wiping a tear from my eye. maxpower. Thank you so much for those two posts. I ordered a barley wine all-grain kit awhile ago and just bottled it today. I made a weaker beer with the second runnings and added some dme to help caarry it through. Needless to say, the "weaker" beer is gone and it is just getting into the bottles today. I kept a milk jug full and put it outside to freeze and I am on my way to concentrated bw! Yum yum.
No more kits for me, I finally got my mind around the basics and I have been brewing like a man possessed.(5 brews since Sunday!)
I like the pg style for economic reasons, but I also think that you can get some good solid, quality beer from it.
Thanks again for the posts and I will let you know how they turn out. :jnj

Damnit maxpower, I can't look at the recipe up there any longer! Making it tomorrow, gonna hop it a bit different and add a bit of honey. I will be putting it on a cake of wyeast london esb. I am an English ale kinda guy, so Im thinking it will work out famously. Probably throw a mild off the back end. Not sue yet. I have a pretty big order coming from NB so it is contingent on that.

Thanks Guys, the BW is coming into its own now (about 10 months old now), tons of flavor and for my lupin loving self, I can't seem to detect much bitterness despite 100 IBU number because the maple syrup dominates the sweetness. Other people that haven't had as much bitter beer as I have said that it has plenty of bitterness though

That being said, you could probably lower that to 4% instead of 7% of the fermentables.

maxpower, thanks for those recipes!!!

I'm interested in doing the Blind Pig/Baby Pig.

I've never done Partigyle, can you clarify your process a bit?
I'm confused as how I get 2 sets of wort at the proper gravities.
Which gets the first runnings.

I'm batch sparging BTW.
