Looking for an Aussie clone - Carlton Cold

Sat Feb 18, 2006 11:14 pm

I had some brew in Darwin and Perth while in the Navy that was awesome but I haven't been able to find it outside of down-under. Would love a clone recipe for this. Hell, I go for best guess. Thanks!

you navy girls never cease to amze me.....the worst beer ever brewed in oz

anyhow

most Ozzie beers have just the 1 hop, Pride of Ringwood, bittering only 20-23 IBU

the grain is 2 row pale, OG would be about 1045 FG 1010-1008

the thing that makes Carlton Cold Special is all that cane sugar, arounf 40% of fermentables

OMG, didn't realize it was that bad at the time. Maybe it was all the aussie women that were distracting me. However, I did enjoy the shit in grandure while I was there. Let me tell a short story.

My first time in Oz was in Darwin. The first bar I went into after a while at sea was right off the pier. I walked in and asked for a bud since I really get a kick out of anyone telling me that I should pay more because Bud is an "import". The bartender told me that the didn't carry Bud and that if I wanted it "there's a water fountain right around the way". He gave me a Carlton Cold on the house and I loved it. Maybe it's been a few years, but I did like it better than VB, MB, and Tooeys ( I think thats the spelling).

Thank you, and I appreciate the input recipe idea's though, if I brew it and it suck's, well, you told me so.

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza.
