Jamils Favorite English Yeast

Sat Jul 26, 2014 4:25 pm

Hey howdy homebrewers, I heard Jamil loves the Wy1469 West Yorkshire for English ales. Is that for all English ales, for both hop/bitter and maltier/darker styles?
Thanks :)

For me it works for any style. The flavors of that yeast work great in every beer ive tried it in. Be prepared for a difficult ferment though. It is a finicky yeast. Sometimes it ferments pretty slow and the krausen has never dropped for me. A month later I've had a thick krausen sitting on top of the beer.

It is a great yeast, but also loves to top crop and just sit on top of the beer. It also loves to crawl right out of the fermenter too, so be prepared with a blow-off or fermcap.

Goes gangbusters in my ordinary bitter, great character and ferments out in no time.
